Interactive painting for brand activations

Turn campaign artwork into an interactive painting activation.

Paintable Pictures helps brands and agencies create participatory art activations for festivals, sports events, product launches, pop-ups, sponsor footprints, and multi-market programs. We convert approved campaign artwork into a large-format paint-by-number mural guests can help complete, then deliver the mural and its operating materials nationwide.

Where it fits

Where an interactive painting activation works

This format is strongest when a campaign needs visible, hands-on participation tied to a recognizable brand image. It can anchor a footprint or become one part of a larger guest journey.

Festivals and high-traffic fan events

A large mural gives people a visible, drop-in activity inside a sponsor footprint or fan zone. At the Super Bowl Experience, a 30-foot Novartis mural let fans add a few brushstrokes while the image developed throughout the event.

Product and entertainment launches

Five 8-foot murals created one consistent fan activity across Ed Sheeran album pop-ups in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Boston, and Chicago. More than 9,000 fans attended the three-day pop-ups.

Sponsor footprints and hospitality spaces

SSP America and Guinness used 5- and 10-foot Chicago murals to invite St. Patrick's Day travelers to pause and paint near airport restaurants and pubs, with detailed brand elements protected in the artwork.

Multi-market and distributed programs

Paintable Pictures produced 36 city-specific mural kits for 12 airport teams in the United States and Canada, giving each location a complete setup it could install and operate locally.

Why it works

01

For guests

The unfinished image, numbered paints, and other participants make the invitation clear. A guest can contribute a few brushstrokes or stay longer, with no art experience required.

02

For brands

Products, marks, colors, and campaign details remain recognizable while the changing mural gives the brand a physical presence people can help create and photograph.

03

For activation teams

The mural has a defined footprint, supports multiple painters at once, and arrives as a connected package your event staff can run, with optional on-site support when needed.

Choosing the format

When a collaborative mural is the right activation idea

A paint-by-number mural is strongest when you want many guests to contribute to one recognizable campaign image. Unlike a live-art performance people primarily watch or individual portraits guests take home, everyone adds to the same shared artwork and its progress stays visible throughout the event.

The format is not meant to replace product sampling, lead capture, or full event production. It works as the participation layer inside that larger plan, alongside a product display, hospitality area, photo moment, or sponsor experience, and it leaves the brand with a finished physical piece after the event.

How we build it

Plan the painting around the campaign, crowd, and footprint

The strongest mural is not just on-brand. It is designed around how people will encounter it, how the event team will operate it, and what the finished artwork needs to become.

  1. 1

    Define the job

We align on the audience, event duration, available wall or easel space, expected dwell time, staffing model, and purpose of the completed mural.

  2. 2

    Make the creative paintable

A Paintable Pictures designer converts the campaign artwork into approachable numbered areas, matches the palette, and protects detailed marks or products that need to remain crisp.

  3. 3

    Deliver an event-ready system

We produce the mural, paints, brushes, accessories, and setup guidance as one coordinated package, then ship it to the event or support the activation on site.

Questions

Questions about interactive painting activations

What is an interactive painting activation?

It is a live event experience built around art that changes as people take part. With a Paintable Pictures mural, guests match numbered paints to a custom campaign image and contribute to one shared artwork. The activity can stand alone or sit inside a larger brand footprint, pop-up, launch, festival, or sponsored event.

When is a paint-by-number mural a good brand activation idea?

It is a strong fit when you want a visible, low-barrier activity that several people can join at once, artwork tied directly to the campaign, and a finished physical piece after the event. It is less suited to a plan where the primary job is product sampling, individual personalization, lead capture, or a performance guests only watch, though it can sit alongside those elements.

Can it work at a festival or event with tens of thousands of attendees?

Yes, as one intentional experience within the larger event rather than an activity every attendee must complete. We plan the mural size, number of painting positions, placement, event duration, and staffing around the expected flow. Large murals can support dozens of painters at once, and multi-mural programs can spread the experience across locations or event days.

How does the artwork get designed?

We start with your approved campaign design, graphic, logo, product image, illustration, or photo. A human designer transforms it into a paint-by-number design, identifies the details that should arrive prefilled or protected, matches the project palette, and sends a proof for your team to review before production.

What sizes are available?

The right mural size depends on the impact and reach of the activation. For smaller and shorter events, 5- or 10-foot murals are often appropriate. For major or multi-day activations, murals often range from 10 to 30 feet. We may use different materials to fit the footprint and installation plan.

What comes with the mural?

The complete package includes your custom paint-by-number mural, numbered paints, brushes, accessories, and setup guidance. We will also coordinate delivery details with your team. On-site facilitation is optional.

Can our activation team run it, or do you provide staffing?

Either approach. Your event or experiential team can run the activation, or Paintable Pictures can provide on-site support and facilitation. We can fit the mural workstream into the staffing model for the larger experience.

How far ahead should we start?

Standard production takes about 20 days, and rush options are always available for near-term projects.
