Great Art Activities for Kids

Printable Paint By Numbers

When you're a parent or caregiver, it can sometimes feel like you need to hire a professional entertainer to keep your kids occupied. Luckily, there are easy and fun art activities that you can do with little ones that don't require any special skills—just printable paint by numbers. These are the perfect way to introduce young children to coloring inside the lines and connecting the dots—they're just like a normal paint by number but they're free to print!

You'll find plenty of free templates online, but if you're feeling creative then why not make your own? All it takes is some paper and pens (you could even use crayons) plus time spent drawing up an original template for them to color in!

Here's how: First, draw out what each section of your picture should look like using thick black lines so that when we start adding colors later on there will be no confusion between which areas belong together or not. Once this step is done then next one will be much easier because all we have left now is filling each space in with paint as dictated by our numbered stencils! This activity can also provide valuable lessons about following directions carefully; make sure each child knows what number corresponds with which color before starting so no mistakes happen!

Artful Turkey

What better way to thank a turkey for giving its life than by making it into a decorative centerpiece? Thanksgiving is the perfect time to introduce your family to this fun activity. If you're an adult, you'll find that giving your inner child something creative to do will give you a needed creative boost.

This project is also great for kids who have been in the classroom all day. It's both entertaining and educational—the kids get the opportunity to learn about holiday traditions, American history, and the art of paper mache. It's also an excuse to let their imaginations run wild as they decorate their finished product!

Great Paper Mache Ideas

Paper mache is a great project for kids because it can be as simple or elaborate as you like. It’s often the perfect step between two-dimensional art and full-blown sculpture, and kids love the tactile, messy experience of using their hands to form objects. If you have time to devote to the project, get them involved in all aspects — from mixing up the papier mache paste to choosing the shape and design of their creation.

Great Paper Mache Ideas:

  • Recycle newspaper into a fun new monster toy for your kids! You’ll be surprised how many imaginative ways there are to make these amazing toys with your kids!

  • Make an adorable piano cat sculpture out of paper mache clay. You can make this project as easy or elaborate as you want depending on your experience level. This tutorial will show you how to make beautiful cat sculptures that really play music whenever they are touched.

How to Draw a Cartoon Dog

To draw a cartoon dog, you'll need:

  • A piece of paper

  • A pencil

  • An eraser

If your kid has never drawn anything before, keep in mind that the main thing is to have fun and not worry about it being perfect. You can even help your child by guiding their hand if necessary!

Here's how to draw a cartoon dog:

  • Draw a circle for the head. If you want to make it more poodle-like, draw an oval instead. For a collie type of look, make it more rectangular with rounded edges. The key is to encourage creativity and improvisation rather than aiming for an exact likeness of any one particular kind of dog!

  • Draw a center line down the circle/oval/rectangle. This will help you evenly divide up the face when drawing the eyes and ears later on. It can also serve as a guide for getting just the right amount of material between the nose and mouth—too little and your dog will look like he or she doesn't have enough tufts or fur; too much and they might start looking more like a shaggy sheepdog than anything else!
